The 10 Best HBO Shows of All Time

Everyone rejoice! Game of Thrones is finally returning to TV this weekend and fans everywhere are frantically trying to re-watch the first three seasons before Sunday’s premier. With hype for Thrones at an all time high there will surely be a gang of HBO newbies taking to social media to proclaim it as the best show the network has ever aired. Before you yourself make that mistake, read our list of the 10 best HBO shows of all time and see where we think Game of Thrones fits in.

10. Oz

Oz is the show that started it all and because of that it deserves a spot on this list.

9. Boardwalk Empire

The slow-moving Boardwalk Empire has developed into a great series. It may take awhile to get into but it’s worth a watch if you have the time.

8. Sex and the City

I’m not a Sex and the City expert but there is no denying its cultural imprint. More importantly, the show was the inspiration behind the Ballsmapolitan.

7. True Detective

True Detective was a huge hit for HBO. With Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson starring there was never any real doubt that it would be.

6. Girls

It hurts me to put Girls on this list because it basically replaced How To Make It In America (one of my personal favs). But there is no denying its greatness. Damn’t.

5. Curb Your Enthusiasm

Larry David is the co-creator of Seinfeld. Enough said.

4. Entourage

What can we say about Entourage that hasn’t already been said? Every dude likes to live vicariously through Vince and the crew.

3. Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones is a newcomer to the HBO network but it has quickly established itself as one of the best shows around.

2. The Sopranos

The Sopranos has all the makings of a great Televisions series. Wiseguys, crime, girls, and even the occasional comedic moment. RIP James Gandolfini.

1. The Wire

The Wire is not only the best HBO show ever, it may very well be the best TV show of all time. Don’t believe me? Just watch.

Honorable Mentions:

How To Make It In America

How To Make It In America inspired kids everywhere to go out and follow their dreams. It’s a shame HBO dropped the series right when it was entering its prime.

True Blood

The first couple seasons of True Blood were great but the series has got worse as it goes on. It’s still one of my guilt pleasures though.
