Yeah that’s right.  Sneakhype hooked up with The Cool Kids for a little chat.  Read the full exclusive interview below to find out just how cool The Cool Kids really are.  Sneakhype verdict: pretty F’n cool. Oh by the way… Chuck and Mikey – if you’re reading this, we just want you to know that those girlies you were messin’ round with that you brought on your bus after the show… complements of Sneakhype.com.  Seriously.

So let me set the scene for you all.  We step in on the bus and our nostrils are filled with the delicious and oh-so-familiar aroma of the dankness that is the super-chronic.  We notice a few laptops open and some cell phones charging on some tables in the front of the bus as we head toward the back.  The middle of the bus has the bunks, and then the back has a wrap around couch and TV.  This is where we all sat down.  Pretty dope.  While Chuck talks business on the phone in the bunk room, we say what’s up to Mikey Rocks.  Feel free to enjoy the music during your perusing of the intervew.

After introductions…

SH: So how many people do you generally ride with?

Mikey: Bout 8, I’d say 8.  But its not too bad man, it’s not too crowded or anything.

SH: What’s an average day in the life of a Cool Kid when you’re not on tour?

Mikey: Wake up at about 1230 pm, you know what I mean?

(Laughs)

SH: Hell yeah

Mikey: My girl usually cooks some food.. grab some food first.  Then I might hit the 2K real quick, (iPhone Rings, Mikey silences) or go hoop at the gym down the street..
Come back, I might hop on some beats or something or hop on some raps…  if I don’t do that, I’ll probably go somewhere to lose some money, going to the store buy some
clothes & stuff… shoes, video games, all kinds of shit.  After that, probably just kick it the rest of the day, my day’s pretty easy if I don’t have any
responsibilities that day… (laughs) I just chill, if its hot outside, go to the beach.

SH: How many days outta the year would you say that you have like that?

Mikey: That depends on the tour schedule.  Like last year, I was never home, but this year we were home for a few months after we were on tour with Q-tip and um…..What the hell is this?! This is crazy as hell, (Mikey looks at the TV, a fucked up scene from “1 Missed Call catches all our attention) That motha fucker is wildin’

Mikey: Last year I was gone a lot, but this year I had a couple months at home just workin on music and chillin you know.
SH: So you live up in Chicago then?
Mikey: yep

SH: born there?

Mikey: I was born in Harvey, its like a suburb of Chicago, then moved to Madison.. and now I live in the in the city downtown.

SH: So when did you meet Chuck?

Mikey: I would say ’05, my senior year of high school, winter of senior year, almost 06.  he was out there for school already, he was going to school at the art institute and I was in my last year of high school and we met up.  I used to drive up to his crib on the weekends and make joints, make tracks all weekend.

SH: So that’s where most the Bake Sale is from?

MIkey: Yeah the Bake Sale was me driving to his house on the weekends, back when I had a Ford Explorer, and it was like our weekend hobby, that was the Bake Sale basically. Back when I was still in school.

(Chuck walks in)

Chuck- So a lot of people coming out tonight?

SH: Of course, everyone talking about it, it’s already sold out.
Chuck: That’s what’s up man.
SH: So before ’05, were you guys always this cool?
(Laughs)

Mikey: Yeah… yeah man

Chuck- We didn’t turn that on

Mikey- It wasn’t a preplanned act man, I’ve been this way since I was a shorty

Chuck- Yeah, but sometimes it wasn’t as beneficial to be this way in school… you know only kiiind of do your school work,

Mikey: yeah I got into a lot in trouble in school.

Chuck: Yeah, there were a lotta girls in school I wouldn’t talk to cause I was just too cool (Laughs) for them, like I was just like,  “This bitch ain’t never going to tell me nothing, so I’d rather not say nothing to her,” you know what I’m saying?

SH: Yeah, of course

Chuck: But when you are the way you are you just got to be yourself and that’s what we do and I think it comes it out in our music you know, and we just try to have a good time with it.

SH: So, aside from sneakhype.com, where do you get your inspiration from?

Mikey- Just being cool man

Chuck- Don’t stop doing what you were doing.  Like I was living a pretty good life prior to this.. this is just my job; I love my job, like I wanna do it all the time, but that’s not me.

Mikey- Being cool is the easiest part of all this, cause that’s what I was doing anyway.  If that was something that was difficult, I wouldn’t be sitting here right now.

Chuck- I pride myself on exploring shit, like hangin’ out with everyone I meet cause I don’t like people to put me up on shit.. like you can’t beat me to it you know what I’m saying, like when someone says “you heard of this?”… yeah, I’ve already heard of it.  (Laughs)

SH: I guess that’s my question though, see most people shop in malls, whereas you guys shop in boutiques, coppin’ limited quantity sneaks (ß stealing a line from a Cool Kids track there)… but how do you get up on things before everyone else?

Mikey- I just know when shit’s coming back out; I look for it.

Chuck: This is the age where we had a pretty much talentless generation come up for a minute so now they have to recycle the old shit so new ideas can get back in.  So you know old shit is coming back out from when you were in 7^th and 8^th grade.  So when I see something from 7^th or 8^th grade that I would have bought back then, I’m gonna cop it now.

Mikey:  Yeah I got a photographic memory pretty much so I remember what looks ridiculous and I’m like “Man… I need that.”  (Laughs)

Chuck: Yeah I remember things that I always wanted, and if I always wanted it, I’m gonna  look for it, you know what I’m saying? It’s not to start shit back up or get people to follow me, but when we started, I will roll with the fact that we were at least part of the part of the resurgence of the snapback caps.

SH: (Laughs) yea most definitely, that’s coming back strong too.

Chuck: Yeah, but the reason I did that is cause I saw one and I remembered how I
used to want ‘em, but when I wanted ‘em, those were the times when my mother would was taking me to get back to school clothes and I couldn’t wear a hat in school
so she’d be like, “what you wanna hat for” and I was like god damn’t if she would let me get them bitches I would buy all of em.
(Laughs)
So we stumbled into this mega mall where this lady had a whole bunch of old school ones…  and we bought all of them bitches.  (Laughs).  I’m talkin’ like there wasn’t a team on the planet in late 05-06 that we didn’t have a snapback of.

SH: How does it feel to know that you are a trendsetter?

Chuck- Na, I don’t think of it like that.

Mikey: Na man, I’m thinkin about how cool I would look with something on.  I don’t care how cool everyone else would look in it, I’m just thinking about how ridiculous I’m gonna get with this.

Chuck: You know when your goin’ to prom and you know that no one can top your tuxedo? (Laughs)  You know you look so clean that you might just get laid off of what you’re wearing?  You got to stay in that mode.   There’s a point in time where I could flick these pajama pants, and people would be like, “damn he got pajama pants on.”  It might catch on, but it’s all about timing — but its like you can’t say people never wore pajama pants, just like you can’t say people never wore snapbacks cause they were wearing ‘em in full effect if you MTV spring break 1992… everyone in that bitch had on the snapbacks.

Mikey: cause it was all they had, we’re not bringin’ it back, they didn’t go out of style, they just left for awhile.

SH: So do you get stuff sent to you for free?

Chuck- No, like I will go into the store, I would rather buy my own shit.  If people throw some extra, it’s all cool but I like to keep track of my own stuff.

SH: So you guys shop in the stores mostly or do you shop online as well?

Chuck- Na, I never shop online
Mikey- Imma give you this secret, and I’m gonna give it to you cause it can’t be duplicated: What happens is, I only shop at maybe about 4 different places in the
whole United States, but when I go there, I re-up so large that its a whole seasons worth, you know ill grab a whole season at one store.

SH:  So uh …where’s this store at?

Mikey: See I can’t give you the store

SH: ( Laughs) Awww.. come on man

Mikey: Na I can’t give you the store.  But, I know some people basically that go collect real shit and they hit me up and tell when they’re in town and I come through and it’s basically just a personal shopping trip, you’re the only one in the store and I’m just in there like, “Yo let me get that, let me get that,” but you know you’re paying for what you get. See I got a large amount of clothes and I only really shop at 4 places. I can’t even really shop in Chicago; the only thing I really get there is shoes.

(By the way, Mikey was rockin’ Air Jordan Fusion 4’s in the White and cement colorway with some green wind pants and a black Undefeated shirt.  Chuck was sportin’ the Black/Red 4’s (but not the fusions) with some green and black pajama pants, the aforementioned newest fad, and a white Undefeated shirt.  Oh, and Mikey’s background on his iPhone was the Chicago Bulls logo.)

SH: You buy a lot of stuff on the road too?

Mikey- Yeah that’s the most fun part for me because I get to hit different spots that got different stuff, know what I mean.  I’m moving around and getting the best of everybody’s shit..  the only thing I buy at home is like shoes; I don’t get any clothes from Chicago..

Chuck- I get some clothes from Chicago — it just depends on what I feel like.  Sometimes I need a jacket, so I go get a jacket.. (Laughs) But it’s not like I have to go hit up a certain store.  It’s just like, “who the fuck do I know that got a jacket out here” and I will go look through their collection and just be like, “I’m taking this right here.”

Mikey- Yeah and I be plannin’ seasons ahead, like when I’m at one spot that got a lot of shit, I be like lemme grab some summer stuff, lemme grab some coats, some sweaters and shit… I’m plannin out my whole year out basically

Chuck: So uh did the Freshman girls all move in this week?

(Laughs) (Mikey leaves to get some food from Buffalo Wild Wings)

SH: Yessir, Lawrence aint got any good shoe stores to check out but we got some good lookin college girls and chronic. ( Laughs)

Chuck: That’s all you need (laughs), So uh is there gonna be some parties after the show or what?

SH: Oh, yeah our place after the show, right across from the football stadium, it’s gonna get poppin.

Chuck: Thats what’s up im just tryin to be at a party tonight.
