In the late 1967, Nike’s first employee, Jeff Johnson opened the first ever Nike retail space: Blue Ribbon Sports (Nike’s original name) at 3107 Pico Blvd in Santa Monica, CA. Blue Ribbon Sports (BRS) was the original crazy dream, born out of a need to serve the athlete. It stood as a brand: by runners, for runners. Focused relentlessly on making runners faster; giving them every competitive advantage.
More than 50 years later, Nike is back at the same address with the same mission, to serve athletes. We invite you to visit our humble beginnings, the place where no dream is too crazy. BRS was the first of its kind — a gathering space for a group of what Johnson describes as “oddball athletes” to talk training, racing and, ultimately, footwear. This space was a hub for runners, and will once again serve as a hub for athletes in Los Angeles pursuing their crazy dreams. This space is filled with a runners library and parts of Nike’s history and heritage.
On January 25, 2019, BRS reopened its doors as a community space for local runners to gather and talk, just as they did with Johnson in the late ‘60s.
BRS will be open every Saturday from 1PM- 4PM – you can sign up here and keep an eye out for special events through @nikelosangeles.
