adidas will officially be parting ways with the NBA after the 2016-2017 season. Nike has swooped in for an 8-year deal with the sports league. There was a lot of speculation that Nike and Under Armour were potentially going to get into a bidding war, but it seems if that were the case, Nike emerged victorious.
There’s been a lot of speculation about the future of NBA jerseys, but this move will probably not remove the NBA’s want of sleeved jerseys to start sporting advertisements. Nike will also be the first uniform supplier to the NBA allowed to have their own logo on the jersey.
This deal means that Nike will now be the brand behind jerseys and apparel for the NFL and the NBA. Will they complete the trifecta, and eventually take over the MLB? Only time will tell.
