Hype: What’s your first move when you wake up in the AM?

GQ: I wake up, brush my teeth, wash my face.  Go check my BlackBerry for messages and missed calls, then I check my Mac, emails, my Facebook notifications etc.  Then I make my daily texts and calls to the team to make sure we get things done for the daily agenda.

Hype: How do you make sure that you stay current & relevant to the hip-hop/music scene?

GQ: Media has a lot to do with any artist and their success, so I feel that’s the way I stay up to date with what’s going on and how I can fit as an artist in the whole spectrum of things.

Hype: How excited are you for this release coming up?

GQ: This by far is my best release up to date.  I started the project as an EP, (6 songs), then I began to get into the project heavy.  I wanted my fans to get more of me because I haven’t put out original material in a while.  I ended up recording about 40 songs and chose the best 15 that fit the over all theme and vibe of the project.  So yeah I’m definitely excited to hear the responses from my fans and listeners because I put a lot of work in this project making sure the quality was as high as possible.

1 – It’s a Stick Up by G.Q. Bugs

Hype: There’s a lotta songs about the ladies on there, is that a subject you like to focus on?

GQ: Well I’m a business man as well as a family man, and in my life woman play a major role in both.  The majority of my family consists of woman, and the majority of my fans are females so I feel it makes sense, and I actually have fun making songs addressing females especially when I’m doing shows, and they’re in the audience.  I can rap to them and not feel awkward, haha, nothing is worse then performing the wrong kind of song to an audience that doesn’t really dig that style of music, haha.

Hype: Speaking of the ladies, I know you gotta have at least one wild story for me.  What’s a crazy moment with a female you’ve had?

GQ: Well I won’t go too crazy because I got some stories that I myself can’t believe happened, but one of them I remember from a few years back.  I had a performance on Bowery Street in the lower east side, and R.I.P. Stack Bundles, and Jimmy Henchman was speakin’ in front of the club after I finished so I had got asked to do a freestyle for some DVD, I believe it was crack DVD if I’m not mistaken, and after I finished, I spoke to Stack for a few and then went back into the club and this girl stops me and says, “Hey are you that ‘Bugs’ rapper?”, and I said “Yea, why whos asking?”.  So, she grabs my hand and says “I want talk to you about our future”.  I start laughing and went along with her downstairs, I was a little tipsy, but yea she brings me to the side room and basically shows me how much she appreciates my “music”.  Haha, I never saw her again and if she’s reading this hit me up, haha.

Hype: How important is the internet to this day & age’s music scene?

GQ: Well, to me the internet has been the biggest part of my career for the simple fact that I am an indie/upcoming artist.  Since I dont have a label behind me making sure I have booked shows and radio interviews or access to things like that.  I basically use the resources I have to the fullest degree possible.  I have learned that I market myself very well and give off a open vibe for people to want to support, and work with me to help promote my music.  So, I personally feel the internet plays the biggest part to this day and age’s music scene.

Hype: What are some artists you would like to collab with?

GQ: I respect a few artist for their talent, and for their contribution to the hiphop genre but sometimes not all collabs work with the kind of artist your dealing with.  So, as far as the collabs that i feel would help my career, I would definitely say Trey Songz, The Dream, Kanye West, Drake, J. Cole, & Bridgette Kelly to name a few, but those are artist that I feel will by my next collabs if I can work hard to enough to get their likings.  I feel like the collaborations you get are determined by the magnitude of the artist you have become, and I should take steps to getting at legends instead of trying straight out the gate.  So dream collabs I would like to work with, Prince, Jay-Z, Nas, Madonna, Daft Punk, Sade, & Quincy Jones.  Those are just names off the top of my head.

Hype: Your in the night spot Saturday night, what do you got up in your cup?

GQ: I usually would say no matter where you catch me at, I would have a cold Corona with lemon and lime, no salt.  I changed up my diet recently though, and don’t really drink beer or dark liquors anymore, so I really have been buying alot of wine and Ciroc.  Depending the venue I’m at, if its a laid back spot, nice crowd, I’m drinking wine a lil’ pino or Moscato, but if I’m in a high energy place, bigger crowd, catch me with Ciroc (doesn’t matter wat flavor).  Diddy holla at me i need to be endorsed!  Haha, no really.

Hype: You’ve done some modeling, what are some brands you’re really diggin?

GQ: Yea, I actually started modeling before I ever picked up a mic or wrote a song.  It’s always hard to say what brand I’m a fan of not only because there are so many to choose from, but because things change so quickly what’s hot today will most likely not be in few years.  I’m a big fan of LV , Marc Jacobs, I’m definitely a Ralph Lauren addict, haha, but aside from those few brands I go to every store; from Gap to Zara, and so on just to find pieces.  I don’t really care if it’s an expensive article of clothing as long as its great quality.
