Nike recently debuted their brand new “Vapor Laser Talon” cleats which were built using revolutionary 3D printing technology. The Nike Vapor Laser Talon was built for speed weighing in at only 5.6 oz. The plate of the cleat was constructed by the Selective Laser Sintering technology. The Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) technology tiny high-powered lasers to fuse small particles of materials together in order to form a 3-dimensional shape. The SLS technology allows designers to create shapes that were not possible with traditional engineering technology. Nike was able to use SLS technology to produce the super-lightweight plate of the cleat in a fraction of the traditional timeframe. It’s crazy to think where this technology will take sportswear of the next few years.
